How We Conduct Winter Logistics

When temperatures drop and snow begins to fall, city streets become more challenging for everyone – cyclists, drivers, and pedestrians alike. Even when the cold makes staying indoors feel tempting, Motivate’s leaders and teams choose to step out with purpose-keeping our operations safe, strong, and reliable.

Beyond the snow removal crews clearing critical transportation infrastructure, several teams work behind the scenes before and during major winter weather to ensure our technicians and vehicles can move in and out of warehouses safely, keeping our 24/7 operations running smoothly – even in the harshest conditions.

According to Colleen Cunningham, General Manager of our Washington, D.C. team, winter preparation starts months in advance. “Snow prep began in October here,” Colleen explains. “We began shipping salt-pallets […] just in case [inclement] weather hits early. Shovels and snowblowers were on hand already.”

Planning ahead is essential, especially as weather patterns become more unpredictable.

“With extreme weather patterns, it can make it difficult to plan,” Colleen adds. “Essentially, you always need a contingency, and in those cases the plans are drastically different and impact the operation differently.”
